by Matthias Mineur (25.03.2006) You really couldn't claim that Tim “Ripper“ Owens didn't learn a lot in Judas Priest. Since his discovering in the 90s, the American singer has made an astonishing development. Of course, he could always sing like no one else but now he also presents his gained maturity as composer and arranger. After the end of his Priest-engagement, he was immediately asked by Iced Earth. Still he couldn't place any of his own songs, there. Consequently, a solo album like “Beyond Fear“ was more than due. In collaboration with the band that he gathered around him, Owens presents himself as an artist who combines his love for traditional heavy metal of the 80s and some modern directives. “Beyond Fear“ sounds but dusted nor trendy but perfectly balanced between past and present. No doubt: one of the most important debut albums of the year of a singer that his fans will have a lot of joy with.
