Babies and expensive tech items like smartphones and ipads are rarely a good combination, which is unfortunate as little ones are often intrigued by shiny, beepy things. Fisher Price however, have created a line of protective covers for such techy gadgets - namely the iPhone, the iPod Touch and now, the iPad, so kids can play games on them and knock them about to their heart's content, while the device remains securely in one piece.
The Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Apptivity Case for the iPad turns this tablet into a plaything for babies as young as six months. The brand have developed a wide selection of fun, age-specific apps (available for free!), that provide lots of entertainment for little ones. They include games and stories with big, colourful and interactive pictures. These Laugh and Learn Apps can be downloaded from the itunes app store and age-wise, Fisher Price cater to infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers.
The case itself is very easy to use; you simply start up an app, open the back of the case, pop the iPad in and close it up again. There is solid plastic covering the start button to prevent baby from accessing any other programmes on the device, though this does mean that to switch to a new app, you will need to remove the iPad from the case.
On the back of the casing there are two plastic flippers that can be opened up - these allow the case to rock backwards and forwards on the floor. This movement engages baby much like typical baby toys. Many of the apps also respond to this motion and create a reaction on the screen.
Highly sturdy and protective, the Laugh and Learn Apptivity Case protects the iPad from drops, knocks and scratches. It is water resistant so dribble, drool and sticky fingers won't be cause for concern, though it is not waterproof, so large spills over the case or submersion in water are best avoided. The colourful carry handle is furnished with beading that is ideal for small fingers and also gives the cover a very 'toy' appeal overall. The handle may also be an attractive and suitable component for chewing when baby is teething!
