Product Description
Made up of an impressive 740 parts, the new Lego Star Wars Resistance X-Wing Fighter's hinged wings and functional missile launchers invite you to play as well as soon as its assembled. Adding to that, the other accessories that can be used to recreate a battle scene straight out of The Last Jedi with the likes of the Millenium Falcon and Battle Packs.
From the iconic starfighter, the Danish brick gods have already released several models: smaller ones for playing, larger ones for collectors, in many different colours and with different accessories. The latest version is largely identical to Poe's X-Wing Fighter from 2015; even a minifigure of Poe Dameron and everyone's favourite droid BB-8 are back. Only the colour of the model and some attachments have changed.
LEGO Star Wars Resistance X-Wing: Old New
-
Instead of black and orange, blue and light grey dominate the exterior of the spacecraft. These colours indicate that it's a standard model of The Resistance, flown by the "ordinary" pilots, whereas Poe's own X-Wing had an individual colour scheme to set it apart from the rest of the fleet. However, the structure and functions of the aircraft have remained the same.
-
The wings can be opened in x-shape by means of a rotating knob and the transparent cockpit can be opened. Beneath it there is room for one of the supplied figures, while BB-8 has reserved a seat behind the cockpit. At the wing ends there are four cannons, whose lasers can actually be fired by means of a spring mechanism. Two more weapons on the fuselage are indicated by reddish-transparent elements, but they are not functional.
-
A small stand can be folded out for storage. A minimal difference to Poe's X-Wing fighter can finally be found at the rear of the spacecraft: instead of a loading rack, the hyperspace drive is now installed.
New Film Characters
The accessories, although not particularly extensive, clearly point to the beginning of Episode VII "The Force Awakens". For example, there is a Stormtrooper with a flamethrower and a small piece of building that can be set on fire with pluggable flames and can be tilted over by means of an articulated mechanism. Lor San Tekka, who is attacked by the enemy Stormtroopers at the beginning of the film, is also present. His ally, Poe Dameron, is equipped with a helmet and a pistol. For fire fighting and repair, there is a fire extinguisher, a shovel and a wrench. The Resistance X-Wing Fighter's ammunition consists of six projectiles, so that two can be used for reloading or as replacements.
Verdict
Anyone who already owns Poes black-orange Starfighter doesn't really have to buy the new Resistance X-Wing Fighter; the slightly changed accessories and minifigures hardly justify the purchase. However, situation is different if none of the other similar models are already yours. In this case you can let the personal colour taste decide or pay attention to the accessories: choose between either workshop equipment or, like here, an attack scene.
