Product Description
Originally released in late 2002, these Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO professional headphones come in at the higher end of the budget, but remain a popular choice for those looking for high-end features without spending over the odds.
The DT 990 PRO headphones feature an over-ear design with open-back cans for dynamic audio delivery. Although relatively cumbersome, they're a reasonably lightweight 250 grams, not bad for a professional pair of headphones. Dynamic audio drivers deliver a frequency response range of 5 - 35,000 Hz, showcasing a rich and broad sound profile, while the impedance rate is an impressive 250 Ohm, handling sudden changes in volume and audio type well.
These 990 PROs from the Beyerdynamic DT series are suitable for use at mixing desks and for those who simply want a richer sound profile from their everyday audio, with 3.5 mm jack connections that allow for compatibility with most hardware types. These headphones also come with a 6.33 mm adapter included. The cable is 3 metres long, giving the wearer plenty of freedom of movement, particularly useful if you are intending to mix audio at the decks and need some room to roam.
These headphones are also designed to last; they are fitted with gold-plated jacks to reduce the degradation of important components and preserve audio quality, with a single-sided cord that'll help prevent snags and knotting as you move. Although the overall design is rather simple, and buyers are limited to a classic black colour option, the design is universal and these headphones are incredibly comfortable. This is thanks to an adjustable padded headband that'll fit most head sizes and shapes and the fact that the cans themselves are also padded, with soft velour coverings that can be removed and replaced.
The product tester at "Digital Versus" praised the excellent sound quality of power handling of the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PROs, singling out the stereo capability as a particular high point. The comfortable design was also complimented. The reviewer had a few negative points to make though, including a relatively crude finish and some weaker performance with lows and mids, which might put off the more professional buyer demanding higher performance.
To sum up: It's hard to fault these Beyerdynamic DT 990 PROs for the price. If you're looking for a pair of professional headphones for mixing applications, you'll find almost everything you need here, with dynamic audio across the range, although you may find fault with the lows and mids on offer. If you're looking for more enhanced features, try something like the Sony MDR-ZX750BNs, or if you're looking for enriched sound, give the Plantronics BackBeat Pro headphones a try instead.

12/08/2009Peter BThis review is for: beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (250 Ohm)Very well designed headphones, produce a transparent noise with thunderous base! They are also excellent for playing computer games/watching DVDs. If you plan to purchase them you should be careful because they make a lot of noise and can create noise pollution for people sitting next to you on public transportvia idealo

24/05/2009BenKThis review is for: beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (250 Ohm)I've had these for eight years now and I'm completely happy with them. The metal frame gives them a great stability and the headphones have shown themselves to be great for everyday use in the city. The earpieces are great, witha lot of polstering, and keep your ears warm even on the coldest of winter days. They si very comfortably and squarely on your head. Definitely try them out before buying! I would definitely buy them again.via idealo
