Product Description
For Comfortable and Adventurous Trips
Simply put, the Intex Excursion 5 is an inflatable dinghy that carries a maximum of 5 people or 455 kg. You're probably looking at it right now beceause you've already seen it on British waters. It is equipped for smaller trips on lakes and rivers and is also well suited to drifting on the water while fishing. There are even holders for your fishing rod integrated for this purpose. Similar models can be found under the names Seahawk or their kayak version, the Intex Challenger K1.
Intex Excursion 5: Good Value and Sturdy
Essentially for a boat of this capacity, this one is available at a very reasonable price. This is mainly due to the choice of material: Instead of nylon, a robust PVC mixture is used, which consists of 3 layers on the outer hull. Tearing or bursting is therefore likely to be difficult even under high loads, but the construction could cause problems when in contact with sharp objects such as stones. On the other hand, the material is suitable for salt water without restrictions, so the Excursion 5 is literally sea-worthy. Just don't get any notions and try to row to France!
Not a Lightweight
The outer width is a maximum of 168 cm, which is quite wide, but it guarantees a decent balance to the inflatable boat. The balance is created by the distribution of the 3 air chambers, which you find on both sides and in the bottom. The latter chamber is additionally reinforced and equipped with bars that further increase stability. Inflating and deflating is done by Boston valves, and a hand pump is included with most deliveries (check this on the shop page). When empty, the Excursion 5 is halfway foldable, but weighing 28 kg it's not exactly easy to transport. Usually 2 persons are needed. When inflated, the guyline, which is pulled completely around the transport vehicle, is helpful.
Verdict
Next to the pump, 2 single paddles of 122 cm length each are included. In case of doubt you should check this information with the respective dealer. If this manpower is not sufficient, you can buy a separate motor mount and equip the model with an outboard motor. The maximum permissible power is stated as 1.1 kW. Such possibilities make the Intex Excursion 5 comparatively flexible: beginners and children benefit from the high lateral stability, while experienced anglers or sportsmen get an extremely affordable product with decent features and expansion options. If a smaller boat for up to 4 people is sufficient for you, the Intex Excursion 4 is right up your canal.
