Product Description
Olympus' M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 telephoto lens is a great addition to your system camera kit that gives you a fantastically long focal length of 80-300 mm equivalent. The 1.4x teleconverter extends this to 210 mm. You'll never be too far away from your subject again! Specially designed to work with your OM-D camera, this kit is weather-sealed so you can shoot in the rain, snow and in relatively dusty conditions without either optic being effected.
If you know you'll be shooting wildlife or sports where you can't get closer to your subject on foot, this is an awesome lens that will also let you make use of as much light as possible via the 2.8 maximum aperture across the entire range of focal lengths. If you'd rather take extreme close-ups, you can get as close as 70 cm away from your subject and still achieve a crystal clear focus even when zoomed up close. Extreme close-ups of plants or animals and interesting perspectives on every day items are now within everyone's grasp.
The barrel doesn't change size as you zoom or focus because all the adjustments are internal. This means you always know exactly how much space your camera is taking and you're unlikely to scare off the insect you're trying to capture with an advancing objective. The ZERO coating on all the glass surfaces eliminates the appearance of ghosts or flare which may ruin your images but beautiful bokeh is still possible in combination with the nine blades that create an almost perfectly round aperture. As should be expected with an Olympus lens, the 40-150mm f/2.8 is not stabilised - this however, makes little difference as long as you attach it to one of the stabilised camera bodies.
There are two more very handy little autofocus features. The dual VCM focusing system makes use of two linear motors to result in super fast focussing and is the reason for the close minimum focussing distance. Also, the handy L-Fn button can be used when continuous autofocus is being employed to temporarily suspend the effect. This is very useful if, for example, someone walks into the space between you and the sportsman you're photographing or a tree comes into frame while you're trying to capture the running of a spectacular beast. Your camera won't adjust the focus away from your intended subject. This button can be used in both movie and still modes.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 and 1.4x teleconverter ships with the front and rear caps, a case, instruction manual and a detachable tripod collar. The collar allows camera rotation when attached, so you can avoid fiddling with your tripod's axes. Markings on the lens indicate each of the 90° rotation points should you not have a bubble level nearby. 72 mm screw-in filters can be used with this product and, since the thread remains static when focussing, polarisers can easily be employed.
