Product Description

First released in early 2014, the Lego City High Speed Passenger Train (60051) build set is one of the more recent additions to the Lego City series. Although it's a relatively expensive set compared to other offerings from the series, the inclusion of a remote control makes this is an exciting alternative for older Lego fans looking for more interaction and a more involved building challenge.

LEGO City High Speed Passenger Train (60051)

With 610 individual parts, the Lego City High Speed Passenger Train is one of the more challenging build sets from the series. It's recommended for ages 6-12, although older Lego fans will find plenty to enjoy here. No matter how old the recipient of this set is, there's plenty of handy guides to ensure a seamless build. The box contains no less than four user manuals, one dedicated to the crossing station, and three to advise on constructing the train itself.

It shouldn't take long to complete construction, although those expecting a high level of detail and depth will be disappointed. There's not a huge amount of detail to the locomotives themselves while the main components of the set involve little building. The big draw of this set is the remote control aspect, with a 7-speed setting that sets this Lego City train set alongside fully-fledged remote control rail sets. The small length of track might be limiting initially, but it's easy to purchase additional track to make a more unique track layout and combine with your existing Lego City sets.

LEGO Passenger Train Reviews

The product tester at "The Technic Gear" gave the Lego City High Speed Passenger Train set a positive review, ranking the set highly for its building experience, points of interaction and playability. The high quality of the build parts was also singled out as a strong point. Although it contains a relatively high number of individual parts, this set was applauded for its easy build. On the flip side, the reviewer did note the high price tag as a problem, while expressing a wish for more track accessories.

To Sum Up

This isn't the most challenging build from the series, but for younger fans, the Lego City High Speed Passenger Train should offer hours of enjoyment. The remote control aspect of the set is also a high point, allowing for heightened interaction with the finished set. However, with a limited length of track and relatively simple details, die-hard fans might be disappointed. If you can afford to stock up on extra tracks such as the LEGO City Switching Tracks (7895) and LEGO City Flexible Rails (7499), you should get a lot more enjoyment from this set. For younger kids and toddlers, the Duplo LEGO Railway Super Set is a great option. You can even embrace the product digitally, by coming across the train in the video game LEGO City: Undercover, which is piles of fun.

Review summary: This reviewer notes that this Lego set is pricey and that it lacks train tracks. It is straightforward to build and the train looks great when moving on the tracks.
