The iRobot Roomba 980 is an impressive, if pricey, robot vacuum cleaner with smart functions and high tech features. Many automated vacuums are clumsy and tend to bang into objects, but the iRoomba is clever and efficient enough to do the job autonomously without worrying about the consequences.

Some features of this robot vacuum cleaner worth noting include the following:

• App Connectivity: the iOS and Android app is very easy to figure out and automatically detects the Wi-Fi network and asks you to connect. You can use the app to schedule up to 3 cleaning times per day, as well as dictate specific cleaning functions. The responses are not instant, so be patient and try not to double up on commands.
• Self-navigation: the iRobot's iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors means the Roomba 980 will not bump into walls or furniture nor indeed take tumbles down steps or stairs. This smart vacuum cleaner has the ability to map your home and memorise distinctive obstructions and features, hugging objects gently instead of crashing into them. Being just under 10 cm (9.14 cm to be exact), it can fit under some beds, dressers and cupboards too.
• Surface Master: Floor boards, tiles and hard surfaces in general are no problem for the Roomba 980, but carpets and rugs is where it really kicks into action. Sensing the new carpet surface, this iRobot vacuum cleaner and its Gen 3 motor and AeroForce system increases the power tenfold.

Futuristic Vacuum Cleaner

The iRobot Roomba 980 is certainly futuristic in its design and capability, but it does come with a hefty price tag. Struggling a bit going over cables and with the app being a tad sluggish let the show down a little, but in general a joy to use and even watch. Just ask the cat!
