Product Description

Just as the Millennium Falcon is to the Lego Star Wars range, so the Lego Porsche 42056 is the pinnacle of the Technic range – a premium set so precise, complicated, classic and stylish that is instantly arresting and will make jaws drop. The model in question is the exceedingly tasty GT3 RS, a beautiful supercar from the German manufacturer, celebrated here in brick form. Containing 2,704 pieces and with a recommended minimum age of 16, this set is not for the faint-hearted, so if you are having second thoughts then stick with your Duplo.

Lego Porsche 42056: Beauty in Design

Even the packaging is gorgeous and minimalist, the tangerine orange standing out perfectly against a sleek black backdrop. The unboxing itself is a joy, as the attention to detail in presentation is on a par with an iPhone or MacBook Pro. The manual is a weighty yet elegant book in and of itself, emblazoned with the instantly recognisable Porsche crest, and filled with glossy colour pictures of the car itself.

The Build

Build-wise although it may appear intimidating, if one does not rush even relative newcomers will be able to proceed through the 856 steps relatively smoothly. The set is divided into 4 different parts, each to a box:

  • Chassis and engine
  • Gearbox and interior
  • Body panels
  • Wheels and other items

Build time for the Lego Porsche 42056 is, at the very least, 4 hours of incredible building pleasure, as each piece clicks and slots together to eventually create a model that is quite staggering.

Pop the Hood. Pop the Trunk

Finished, the Lego Porsche 42056 is almost 2 feet long, so it really does take up a great deal of space. The bonnet compartment and the boot both raise easily, with a piece of Porsche luggage fitting the the former, and the latter revealing the car's engine. The attention to detail with the set is quite something. As well as steering, the paddle shift gearbox can actually function. However, there is no Power Function to test this out in action, which is a little surprising. Overall, this is an incredibly beautiful piece of engineering, which wouldn't look out of place behind glass in a display cabinet. Instead, with careful comparison between sellers online you could pick it up for reasonably cheap and display it in your own home.

Review summary: For LEGO fans with a big budget, this set is an absolute winner according to this reviewer. As is the case with all things Porsche-related, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a pricey set. This reviewer notes that it is very enjoyable to build and is best suited to experienced LEGO builders.

Review summary: This LEGO set gets top marks for design and scores well for value for money and playability. This reviewer notes that it is very important to follow the steps provided with the set when building it, as the pieces are not regular LEGO bricks and the Porsche is not a model that can be easily put together and taken apart.
