Vinca major is an exceptionally tough variety that will flourish in almost any position in the garden, from full sun to difficult shady corners. Periwinkle is a robust, low growing shrub that produces inky blue flowers from April right through until September. Vinca bears dark green, evergreen foliage on ground-covering stems that can help to beat weeds, making it a beneficial addition to any garden. This plant is brilliant for filling difficult gaps in the garden where few other species will grow. Height: 45cm (18") Spread: 75cm (30").

Grow Vinca in borders, woodland gardens or on banks as ground cover, in any moist, well-drained soil which does not dry out. They cope particularly well with clay soils. Periwinkles are versatile plants and will happily grow in full sun, partial shade or full shade, although flowering will be better in sun.

Water Vinca plants frequently until fully established. Once established, periwinkle plants require little attention. Prune periwinkle in spring by cutting back hard to restrict growth.
