Absolutely FANTASTIC for Scout Groups and Everyone

This cooker is brilliant as the power beats the wind and rain and cooks very fast. We simply bought an adaptor from USA and hook up a standard red calor bottle. Cheap, efficient and HOT food!

Excellent BUT gas will cost you a fortune.

Excellent stove, but gas will cost a fortune to run.

If there was a calor gas conversion, I’d have kept it. But there is not.

I guess that’s how they make their money.

Best family base camp stove

First things first - the Coleman fuel canisters are poor value for money. Other reviewers have said this - it really is true, although personally I found that one would last 3 days providing for a family of 4 (cooked breakfast, tea + coffee in the day and a cooked evening meal with dessert at night). There are two easy solutions to convert to calor gas (1) buy an adjustable regulator, some gas hose and jubilee clips and improvise your gas connector (be safe people) (2) buy the Coleman adaptor (likely shipped from USA) and use that - this is what I did - it worked easy, no need for a regulator, just connect straight in to the bottle (regulator is built in to the unit). Ideally this wouldn't be necessary but as it's made for the US market it's just the way it is.

Now the negative part is out of the way, on to the reasons why you'd want to go to the expense of buying this camp cooker and extras to make it work with a calor bottle. Quite simply the power of this beast is incredible - no danger of being left with lukewarm food on a miserably cold night with this in your camp kitchen. This really can't be understated and for anyone who has camped in less than fair weather, you'll know the misery of a gas stove that's not up to the job. I found the flame "adjustability" to be right but please don't try thin cheap pans with this stove - that's why some people found it too hot, it's the same with your gas hob at home. The griddles are excellent and I found produce great toast and cooked breakfasts.
All in all, a sturdy build with powerful burners that can griddle as well as boil / simmer that deserves the title: "Best Family Base Camp Stove".

In my humble opinion, of course.

What an excellent cooker

I bought one of these after seeing some Australian 4 x 4 outback videos. Converting it to run on a 3.9 kg Propane bottle is simplicity itself with a Silverline adjustable regulator, 8mm gas pipe and some Jubilee clips. My only gripe is the push button on the igniter sticks in but pops out in about 5 seconds- works fine though. Easy to regulate the heat, the hotplates are brilliant and do great bacon and egg breakfasts. Easy to clean, but needs a bit of packing when carrying closed to stop the hotplates flying about. But a great, sturdy cooker. Just don't run it on Coleman gas cylinders, waaay too expensive.

Fuel costs ridiculous

We tried to convert this to a large gas bottle using coleman brand adaptor. Didn't work nd we ended up junking the cooker trying to get it to work. It has a special reg so you can't adapt it in UK. Waste of money.

stay clear

Great stove but gas lasts a day max and then costs you £15 to get a new one! No one really sells them so stupid!! Stay clear.

Fantastic stove, but fuel is very expensive.

I've read that the propane cylinders for these are widley available and cheap ($5.49 for 2 from Walmart) in the US. If this were the case here they'd be a great investment. Sadly, though, prices are often £9.99-£12.49 for a single canister, when they are available from the mainstream retailers, and anything up to £40 for 2, from sellers you've never heard of on Amazon, when they are hard to get ahold of (which seems to be the case far more often than not).

For average use (a breakfast, main meal and drinks) each canister lasts 1-3 days (depending on if you're using both burners for the meals or not).

It is a shame as they are fantastic stoves and give a highly powerful (but controllable) flame that works well in wind. I've given up, though, and decided to invest in a Coleman Dual Fuel stove which can run off both unleaded and Coleman liquid fuel. The cost of these is prohibative and you're always worried whether you'll have to pay a fortune or not. Until Coleman find a way to get their propane here cheap (or at least provide official adapters so we can run these on our own gas) I'd stay clear.

The Best Coleman Double Burner Stove so far!!

I recently purchased the Coleman FyreChampion Double Burner Stove, but while unpacking the stove I found that it was badly damaged around one of the burners. I immediately returned the stove to the shop and the staff at Go Outdoors Leeds quickly replaced the item. The staff were very helpful.
The replacement stove is excellent and I use it with my calor gas 6Kg and 3.9Kg propane bottles and a Silverline adjustable propane regulator. (The 1lb propane Coleman cylinders are far too expensive and contain a mere 457g of propane.) This is easily the best Coleman propane double burner stove so far!!

Expensive Waste

Product is great for boiling water, we struggled to find a suitable temperature for anything else and ended up with burnt pans on the base, We had a weekend away camping, cooking for 6 and ended up using 4 cannisters!!! Sorry but we will be looking for an alternative as we cannot spend £40 a time on propane gas!! Thumbs down from us.

fabulous performance but.

the stove itself is brilliant and the build quality is top notch, but the fuel is so expensive. 1 can lasted less than 2 days and at £9 a go that is prohibitive. If you don't mind paying the fuel price go for it .

Coleman FyreChampion

I ummed and ahhed at getting this as it seemed a lot of money for a stove. But I am glad I did, this is an awesome piece of kit. I boils a kettle in no time and using both hobs you can cook up a meal as well.

I use it mainly for fishing on the bankside and even in strong winds the performance is second to none.

Better Than A Barbecque

I bought this to replace an ailing BBQ as it has griddle plates. I was a bit surprised that it will not take a standard propane bottle out of the box, but will only work with Coleman gas. That aside we fired it up for the first time this evening (16.05.15) and even on the lowest setting it is hotter than any other consumer/backyard BBQ that I have come across. Pancakes and fried eggs and tomatoes all perfectly cooked. I do not as of yet know how long the gas will last in the cannister, but for performance *****.

Powerful Stove.

We purchased this as we wanted a gas stove with high output burners and after testing it was not dissapointed. It boiled, indoors, a litre of water in 2 minutes and 50 seconds which is great and faster than anything else we had used previously. The grill plates are heavy quality and we had no issues with using them and found that having the burner on it's lowest setting was more than adequate for cooking things fast without burning, also good non stick quality too. If you are after a solid, well made stove which is powerful and easy to use, even when it is windy, then this one from Coleman is for you.
