A stretchy waterproof jacket for high-exertion active use - especially suited for endurance hiking and trail/fell running.

The Montane Trailblazer Stretch Jacket is made of Aquapro Dynamic four-way stretch fabric, allowing maximum manoeuvrability whilst also being both waterproof and breathable.

It's bi-component membrane provides hydrophobic protection under normal exertion, and hydrophilic protection during more strenuous activity to quickly remove perspiration vapour.

The technical tailoring and articulated sleeves prevent the hem from moving up with arm movement and the stretch panels on the torso allow greater body movement.

While it can be worn as an everyday waterproof jacket, the higher the exertion of your activity then the better it performs.

  • Adjustable elasticated hem and collar for heat management.
  • hook and loop adjustable cuffs to fit over gloves.
  • Full length water-resistant Aqua Guard zip with internal storm flap.
  • Two zipped deep pockets with mesh lining, positioned conveniently away from backpack straps.

CHEST: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, making sure to keep the tape under the arms and around your shoulder blades.

WAIST: Measure around the smallest part of your waist (natural waistline).

HIPS: Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part.

INSIDE LEG: Measure from the top of your inner leg, along the inside seam to the bottom of your leg.

10,000 hydrostatic head, with minimal breathability

Well I have had this jacket for about 5 years now, I use this jacket as a summer/autumn waterproof piece of kit which rarely gets used and is kept clean with Nikwax tech wash and reproofed every 3 washes to keep it in its best condition which you have to do with this type of jacket.
Well I took this jacket when climbing up the Langdale pikes on 11th September 2016 and I have to say the jacket let me down poorly.
I am a sweater when I hike / climb, so breathability is important, and I am always warm which pretty much stopped me getting hyperthermia in 50 mph winds and horizontal rain.
The jacket at first does bead off water for about 30- 60 minutes but as you become hotter and sweat as we did with a heavy drizzle which was forced onto the jacket in fog conditions, it does overwhelm the jacket quickly and I was completely soaked through.

Another thing to note is that this jacket needs a thicker more robust shoulder material to cope with a light rucksack as this is yet another area that firstly lets through a lot of water on the shoulder area with the arms and pockets.

Its nothing like a E vent jacket, and couldn't be farther from a Gore Tex Pro / Gore Tex Active style material.
I personally am going to sell this jacket as it doesn't do what I wanted it for, which was to keep me dry in Coldish conditions during a summer/Autumn hour or two belt of rain.

Your Alternatives would be a Gore Tex Active, which I am going to pick up in the next week or so, or another 20,000 hydrostatic head/ 20,000 breathability top or even higher.
That should help keep most of the rain out and still allow you to keep sweat away from inside the jacket to keep you comfortable.

Don't get me wrong, if your putting it on for the shops or a quick walk somewhere it would probably stand up to it, but for hiking or climbing with any type of sustained winds or rain and you can forget it.

I hope this review helps someone.

good and flexible

very happy with this purchase and it keeps to the specification it provides, However the down side is keeping if from 5 is the warmth factor. I know its not made for warmth and insulation but could do with some additional fabric on the inside to solve this problem. Although, it has two good sized pockets, This was what made me buy it compared to my other option of rab torque with non . Disregarding all the negatives a great buy and widely recommended.

Excellent Jacket

I bought this jacket mainly for golf and spring skiing.
Have used it for both and it has been excellent, particularly at golf, where the stretch comes into its own, keeps the wind out and is bone dry when raining. Wore it one day in strong wind and torrential rain that caused the competition to be called off after 2 hours. I was completely dry on the upper body yet completely soaked from the waist down as I was wearing normal trousers. We even stopped using brollies after 2 holes due to the extreme wind, so the jacket performed exceptionally well!

Poor quality

I love montane stuff but was let down badly by this jacket,if you think this is going to be as good as the event waterproof you will be mistaken,it's breath ability is non existent and to top it off the stitching down one arm came apart very quickly I expect better from montane. I took mine back for a refund

Not Impressed!

DO NOT waste your money on this jacket - it does not work! I wasted £153!! Although it fits well and is a nice design, the breathability aspect however is a complete failure. When I first wore the jacket and became very damp on the inside, my initial thouight was that the jacket isn't waterproof, but I realised it wasn't wicking any perspiration away. Having written to Montane, who were frankly quite rude, they refused to accept the jacket doesn't work. I replaced the jacket with a RAB EXODUS, which is cheaper and a much better jacket all round.

Failed Jacket

I Got this jacket, and on first walk and found out it cannot breath properly. Taken out to Cornwall in wind and rain an the badness continued. It is not waterproof. It More soaks up water, then runs off in balls as it is meant to.
So I end up soaked on 2 fronts. However it is windproof. But this at full price is not good. Montane need to think again!

Not Waterproof

Bought this jacket on the recommendation of the sales assist, and after a day in the rain this jacket will be going back after getting totally soaked.

Not Breathable

With over twenty years of using waterproof jackets on expeditions this was the most uncomfortable jacket i have ever purchased. Although the fit, look and feel are good the breath ability is not existent leaving you with a very uncomfortable slimy feeling on the internal seams.

Not Waterproof

Perhaps a manufacturing issue. I waas expecting good things from this jacket - but wore it out once in persistant rain and ended up with soaked arms. Got my money back from leeds branch, and they told me the jacket would be going back to the manufacturer.

Excellent value and usability

Bought this a few weeks ago for a lightweight waterproof and it is all that and more.

Packs down well, the stretchability is great for climbing and general use, and the length at the rear means it overlaps my waterproof trousers really well.

Pockets work well with a backpack, and the front zip comes up over the chin/mouth if so desired.

Only down side is a lack of a smaller pocket for a mobile or whatever.

Would recommend.
