The Adafruit 16-bit Colour OLED Breakout Boards give any microcontroller main board a 128 x 96 colour OLED display. All this takes just the 4 x SPI signals plus 2 x power lines. The displays have red, green and blue OLED pixels which generate their own light so there's no backlight and very high contrast. Each RGB pixel can be set with 16-bit resolution, even though the displays are only 32mm diagonally they're very clear and crisp as the black background is properly black. The boards have an SD card on the back which is useful for storing bitmaps or icons.
