The heart of the Arexx RP6 v2 robot is a powerful ATMEGA32 micro-controller with 32kB flash memory, 2kB SRAM and capable of 8 million instructions per second. Open Source tools (avr-gcc) in high-level 'C' language are used for programming. The very extensive RP6 function library and several sample programs simplify programming.
Using the USB interface included, your own programs can be quickly uploaded to the micro-controller from a PC. Among other things, the robot can respond completely autonomously, avoiding obstacles using its infra-red sensors, respond to collisions with the tactile sensor, react to light and follow light sources and communicate with other robots via an IR link.
The RP6 v2 comes with two integrated high-resolution speed controllers for accurate speed control and path measurement. The motor current consumption is monitored so that it can react in the case of a jam. The system also has a low-battery indicator and 6 LEDs for displaying the program and sensor states.
With its highly flexible expansion system, the capabilities of the robot can be expanded at will, using additional sensors, actuators and micro-controllers. The bus system is based on the I²C bus and can connect up to 127 bus subscribers to one another. The extension boards can be mounted symmetrically to the front and rear of the robot and can be stacked on top of one another.
