The Adafruit 3-axis Accelerometer and Magnetometer (Compass) breakout board is based around the popular LSM303DLHC which communicates via I2C. Detect acceleration in all three axes including due to gravity so your project always knows which way is down. Detect the strength and direction of the local magnetic field which will normally be the Earth's. There are two programmable interrupts which can be triggered by events such as free-fall detection or by limits such as tilt angle or acceleration. Other features include 16-bit output, on-chip temperature sensor, and Individual power control for each of the sensors. It's been designed to be 3 and 5V logic and power supply safe, simply connect your power and logic and you're ready to go. Adafruit supply a simple Arduino library and a tutorial to get you started, though these will help whatever microcontroller you're using.

Supplied as a fully assembled board plus a 1 x 8-pin strip of 0.1in. male header pins for you to solder on as required.
